The Nukes Only News Report: Issue #10

February 5, 2025

Hello and welcome to the 10th edition of the Nukes Only News Report!

We hope everyone’s having a great hump day so far—we’re fired up for another action-packed week of golf ahead. In this issue, we’re covering some young guns making their mark across the pro and college circuits.

Let’s dive right in:

The Rundown

Luke Clanton has his eyes on a tour card at this week’s WMPO in Scottsdale

(via NBC Sports)

Stop us if you’ve heard this before—but Luke Clanton is back in action this week at TPC Scottsdale and needs just a made cut to officially secure his PGA Tour card for this summer. The FSU junior has another shot in a few weeks after winning the Valspar Collegiate and will be eligible to turn pro immediately after the NCAAs.

Also joining him in the field via sponsor exemption is Josele Ballester (Arizona State senior, PGA Tour U #2, and reigning U.S. Amateur champ). Playing on a bit of home turf, Ballester could make a push toward the #1 spot and join Clanton on tour this summer.

(And don’t sleep on Frankie Capan—the rookie has had a scorching start to his PGA career and is a two-time Arizona HS state champ. He should feel right at home!)

Nick Gabrelick shot even-par 70 on Sunday to finish T2 with Johnny Keefer

We’re just weeks into the Korn Ferry Tour season, and the young guns are already making noise. Veteran Josh Teater stole the show with a Sunday comeback win (his first since 2009—shoutout to him!), but two young studs, Johnny Keefer and Nick Gabrelcik, were among the biggest standouts.

This was just Keefer’s third career KFT start after tearing through the PGA Tour Americas last year—he looks poised for big things. Meanwhile, Gabrelcik notched his second career top 10 after a rock-solid final round. Safe to say these two are just getting warmed up. Watch this space!

Jon Rahm was a two time winner of this prestigious award

The Ben Hogan Award watchlist is out—and it’s absolutely stacked.

A few under-the-radar (and underclassmen) names we’ll be tracking:

  • Ethan Fang (Oklahoma State)

  • Josiah Gilbert (Auburn)

  • Jake Peacock (USF)

  • Cameron Tankersley (Ole Miss)

Just to name a few… Who’s your pick to take home the hardware?

Player Spotlight

Kartik Singh fired a second round 71 to make the cut over the weekend

Kartik Singh Makes History in India

15-year-old amateur Kartik Singh made history last week as the youngest Indian player ever to make the cut on the Asian Tour.

Singh was competing on his home course at the International Series India, just his second professional event—and he’s already making waves.

Big things ahead for this young man!

Quote of the Week

âťť

“At the end of the day, I’m trying to get my Tour card - that’s the No. 1 priority right now, and I want to win a national championship at FSU.”

Luke Clanton

That’s it for this week!
