The Nukes Only News Report: Issue #11
February 12, 2024
Hello and welcome back to the Nukes Only News Report!
This week, we’ve got plenty of young guns making waves at every level—from college to the big stage. And a special shoutout to a PGA Tour rookie who made the most of his Monday Q opportunity in Phoenix.
Let’s dive right in:
The Rundown

Tommy Morrison notched his first collegiate win in Hawaii last week

Tommy Morrison fired a blistering 9-under 63, racking up 10 birdies to force and eventually win a playoff at 21-under over UNC’s Hampton Roberts in Hawaii last week. The win is the first of his college career and should make Morrison a heavy favorite to join the U.S. Walker Cup squad at Cypress Point this year.
Roberts wasn’t far behind—his 12-birdie round tied the UNC 18-hole record for strokes and set the UNC record for scoring to par at 11-under in the second round. Ethan Fang finished T3 and helped Oklahoma State secure the team title for the event.

Ross Steelman is one of several young players off to a fast start on the KFT this year

Kyle Westmoreland claimed victory at 18-under par, but the Korn Ferry Tour continues to showcase elite young talent:
Pierceson Coody (T2/-17) – The three-time KFT winner carded a bogey-free 5-under 66 for his best result of the season and third consecutive top-10 finish.
Christo Lamprecht (T2/-17) – The second-year pro logged his best career finish and second top 10 of the year.
Davis Chatfield (T6/-15) – The Notre Dame alum posted a final-round 67, marking his third straight top-25 finish and second top 10 of the season.
Ross Steelman (T6/-15) – After leading through 36 holes, he bounced back from a tough third round with a 3-under 68 for his second top 10 of 2025.
The Korn Ferry Tour is stacked with future stars—keep your eyes on these names!

Daniil Sokolov of Qatar turned heads with his opening round performance in Doha
(via ESPN)
Yes, you read that right—a 13-year-old carded a 3-over 75 in Round 1 of the Qatar Masters.
Daniil Sokolov, a Russian national who represents Qatar, earned a sponsor exemption and was 2-under through four holes before slipping to 3-over by the end of his round.
While he ultimately missed the cut, Sokolov’s talent at such a young age makes him a must-watch on the international scene.
Player Spotlight

UGA Alum Will Chandler made the most of his opportunity after Monday Q’ing into the WMPO
PGA Rookie and Monday Qualifier Makes Waves at Waste Management
If ever there was a case for the Monday qualifier to stay a part of the WM Phoenix Open in the future, Will Chandler proved it's a viable option on Sunday.
The PGA Tour rookie wasn't in the field when the week began at TPC Scottsdale and ended the week with his first made cut in a Tour event and his first top-10 finish, shooting 5-under 66 on Sunday to tie for sixth.
After an unheralded career at Georgia, Chandler's finish puts him at No. 72 in the early FedEx Cup standings, and the top-10 finish gets him into the field at next week's Mexico Open at Vidanta.
Quote of the Week
"I'm definitely, definitely pleased with the week, but I'm excited to get back to work and get home. I have a lot I can improve on for sure."
That’s it for this week!
Let us know who we should be tracking—and best of luck to everyone teeing it up this weekend!
Until next time… 🚀
