Nukes Only News Report – Cognizant Classic Recap & API Preview 🚀

Welcome back!

This week, we’re recapping all the historic storylines from the Cognizant Classic, before looking ahead to the young guns teeing it up at this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The Florida swing never disappoints, and so far, 2024 is already delivering.

Let’s dive in:

The Rundown

Young Luke Clanton made a dream come true in epic fashion last week in Florida

🚨 Do yourself a favor and carve out 15 minutes to read this full story - it’ll be one of the best things you see today.

Luke Clanton finally punched his ticket to the PGA Tour last week - and he did it in dramatic fashion, in front of family & friends, at a course he practically grew up on.

This piece dives into the sacrifices Clanton’s family made, the unshakable character he’s shown at every phase of his young career, and why he’s so easy to root for.

The sky’s the limit for Clanton, and we’ll be tracking his every step from here on out.

Joe Highsmith wins on Tour after nearly losing status during the fall swing.

Not to bury the lede, but another rising talent stole the show Sunday, as Joe Highsmith stormed back to capture his first PGA Tour victory.

The 24-year-old Pepperdine alum was on the verge of losing his Tour card in the fall before a single conversation with his college coach set him on an absolute tear to lock up status.

Fast forward to this weekend, and Highsmith made history - becoming the first player in nine years to make the cut on the number and go on to win the tournament.

Something tells us this won’t be his last victory.

Jackson Koivun can quickly follow in Luke Clanton’s footsteps with a strong performance at the API this week

(via Yahoo Sports)

While Luke Clanton has been dominating headlines, Auburn sophomore Jackson Koivun is quietly on the verge of following in his footsteps at this week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Koivun has earned this shot after putting together one of the most dominant freshman seasons in recent memory:

🏆 2 wins (including the SEC Championship)
🥈 5 runner-up finishes (including the NCAA Championship)
🏅 Haskins, Hogan, & Nicklaus Awards (sweeping College Player of the Year honors)

And while a top 10 finish at Bay Hill would be a long shot, it would lock up his PGA Tour card before Auburn defends their National Title this spring.

Stay tuned - Koivun is one to watch.

Player Spotlight

Aldrich Potgieter makes his Signature Event debut after a narrow loss in Mexico

Aldrich Potgieter Returns to Action

Fresh off narrowly missing his first career win just weeks into his PGA Tour career, Aldrich Potgieter is back in action this week at Bay Hill.

The long-hitting South African was an absolute missile launcher in Mexico - lapping the field in driving distance while showing surprising short game chops.

Given the demanding setup at Bay Hill, his skill set should be a perfect fit.

🚀 Don’t be surprised if he finds himself in contention again on Sunday.

Quote of the Week

“The things that the kid has done when nobody’s watching is what makes him special.”

Luke Clanton’s HS Coach Brandt Moser
