The Nukes Only News Report: Issue #4

December 11, 2024

Hello and welcome back to a very special edition of the Nukes Only News Report!

The PGA Tour Q-School finale kicks off Thursday in Florida, and for just the second time since 2012, PGA Tour cards are up for grabs this week.

The top five finishers (and ties) will earn 2025 PGA Tour membership, resurrecting a cherished holiday golf tradition from years past.

Here’s everything you need to know about Final Stage, running Thursday–Sunday across TPC Sawgrass’ Dye’s Valley Course and Sawgrass Country Club.

Let’s get into it:

The Rundown

Austin Greaser will look to join fellow Tar Heel Ryan Gerard in clinching his card for next year.

The Field:

The Final Stage field features 171 players. Ninety-one advanced via Second Stage, while the rest earned direct access through various exemption categories.

Here are a few notables to keep an eye on:

  • Austin Greaser
The former UNC All-American had a rocky start to his KFT career but showed his potential with a T4 finish at the Memorial Health Championship. He’ll be looking to keep that momentum going this week.

  • Charles Reiter
One of the longest hitters in the field, the USD alum turned heads at this year’s U.S. Open by unleashing bombs on the Pinehurst range. He clinched his spot at Final Stage with a clutch 5-under 67 at Second Stage, locking up KFT status for 2025.

  • James Nicholas
A dual-sport standout at Yale, Nicholas has carved an unconventional path to this moment. After grinding on the KFT and putting together a strong season on the DP World Tour (DPWT), he’s now knocking on the door of the PGA Tour. He’s also an amazing follow on social and an easy guy to root for. You’ll see what we mean here.

James Nicholas is hoping to follow up a solid stint on the DPWT with an even bigger jump this week.

Other players we’ll be tracking include Adrien Dumont de Chassart, Sam Bennett, Nick Gabrelcik, John Keefer, Bryce Lewis, and many more. Best of luck to everyone in the field!

Adrien Dumont de Chassart is looking to build on a strong finish to the Fall Swing.

What’s At Stake:

Here’s what’s on the line this week…

  • PGA Tour Cards: Top five finishers (and ties) earn PGA Tour status for 2025.

  • Korn Ferry Tour Status: The next 40 finishers (and ties) gain exempt KFT status through multiple reshuffles for the 2025 season.

  • PGA Tour Americas: The next 20 finishers (and ties) earn exempt status for the 2025 Latin America Swing, along with conditional KFT membership.

  • Conditional Status: All remaining players at Final Stage will receive conditional membership for both the KFT and PGA Tour Americas in 2025.

Piercson Coody will look to improve on his 2025 Conditional Status this week.

How It Works:

  • Format: Players will compete over four rounds—two at TPC Sawgrass’ Dye’s Valley Course and two at Sawgrass Country Club.

  • Pairings: Groups remain the same for the first two rounds, then re-pair for rounds three and four.

  • Routing: The top half of the field (through 36 holes) will play their third round at Sawgrass Country Club and their final round at Dye’s Valley. The bottom half will follow the reverse order.

  • No Cut: All 171 players will complete all four rounds.

Harrison Endycott blitzed the field by 4 last year to earn his card.

Last Time Out:

At last year’s Final Stage, Harrison Endycott claimed medalist honors with a stellar 15-under 265.

The Australian opened his final round with a birdie and added three more on the back nine to cruise to a four-shot victory. Even a closing bogey couldn’t dampen his performance.

The other 2024 PGA Tour card recipients included:

  • Trace Crowe (2nd, 11-under)

  • Blaine Hale Jr. (3rd, 9-under)

  • Raul Pereda and Hayden Springer (T4, 8-under)

Who will step up this year on golf’s biggest stage?
