The Nukes Only News Report: Issue #5

December 17, 2024

Hello and welcome back to the last Nukes Only News Report of 2024!

We hope you’ve been enjoying this format over the past few weeks. If you know a fellow golf fan (or several) who would love it just as much, we’d be thrilled for you to share it with them.

In the meantime, we’ve got some top young talent making serious waves in the golf world over the last few days. Let’s dive right in

The Rundown

Matthew Riedel (Vandy) earns his tour card just a few short months after finishing school.

(via Golf.com)

After wild weather caused absolute carnage on Friday afternoon, the dust has officially settled at the Final Stage of PGA Tour Q-School, and six players have earned their cards for the 2025 season.

  • Alejandro Tosti, Lanto Griffin, and Hayden Buckley bring significant PGA Tour experience to the table.

  • Takumi Kanaya—a former World #1 amateur with seven professional wins in Japan—will make his full-time PGA debut.

  • Matthew Riedel, fresh off an excellent final year at Vanderbilt, navigated the blustery Florida conditions with a ball-striking clinic, sealing his spot with a nervy 4-footer on 18. He credits growing up in Houston for teaching him how to shape shots when it matters most. Exciting times ahead for these rookies in 2025!

UNC’s David Ford will make his DPWT debut next month.

(via Golfweek)

As the current #1 in the PGA Tour U rankings, UNC senior David Ford has earned an exemption into the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, held January 16–19 at Emirates Golf Club.

This marks Ford’s DP World Tour debut, though he already boasts plenty of professional experience, along with two college victories this season.

Michael Thorbjornsen competed in this event the past two years as the PGA Tour U #1 and has since made a successful leap to the PGA Tour.

Don’t be surprised if Ford follows suit in just a few short months. 👀

Tyler Watts took home the hardware at last year’s Jones Cup Jr. Invitational

(via Golf Genius)

Before the Jones Cup Invitational kicks off next month in Sea Island, the Juniors are in town this week to showcase some of the brightest up-and-coming golf talent.

Tyler Watts took home the title last year, and this year’s field features plenty of exciting names to track, including:

  • Will Hartman

  • Sam Udovich

  • Shiv Parmar

  • Trevor Gutschewski

  • Patmon Malcom

  • Grayson Petru

  • Eli Walker Campbell

Expect fireworks all week from these future stars! We’ll be watching closely.

Player Spotlight

Spain’s Angel Ayora is a name to remember (for a long time.)

Angel Ayora Makes Big Splash at the Alfred Dunhill Championship

Fresh off his promotion to the DP World Tour via the Challenge Tour’s Road to Mallorca, Angel Ayora has wasted no time turning heads.

After a 6th-place finish at the Australian PGA, Ayora backed it up with a 5th-place showing at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. If not for a tough break late on Sunday, we might already be talking about Ayora’s first DPWT trophy.

With a complete game and maturity beyond his years, the young Spaniard looks like the next great international superstar. Something tells us his first win won’t take very long.

Follower Swing of the Week

This week’s follower swing comes from Minjune Jang, a 2028 out of New York who has been grinding big time and it shows.

We love everything about this clip from the smooth tempo, to the backwards hat, to the swagged out white on white pant/shoe combo. Go show the man some love!

That’s it for this week!

We’ll be taking some time off through the new year and hope you all get a chance to unwind and do the same. In the meantime, check out our Instagram for more Follower Swing features this week, and hit us up if you’d like to collab!

Have a fantastic holiday season with family and friends, and we’ll see you in 2025. 🚀
