The Nukes Only News Report: Issue #7

January 15, 2025

Hello and welcome back to the Nukes Only News Report…

We’re officially settling into our new schedule – you can now expect us in your inbox every Wednesday morning. So, grab your coffee and get ready for some (somewhat) spicy takes on the state of pro golf.

Let’s dive right in:

The Rundown

Gray Albright outlasted FSU teammate Jack Bigham to capture the Jones Cup title

(via Golfweek)

A huge congratulations to Gray Albright, who clinched a dramatic playoff victory over fellow Seminole Jack Bigham to win the 2025 Jones Cup. With daylight fading fast, the FSU teammates battled it out in sudden death after a late 3-putt from Bigham. Albright sealed the deal with a clutch 2-putt par from 30 feet.

FSU showed out this week, landing three players inside the top 12, and we saw standout performances from Jackson Van Paris, Miles Russell, Henry Guan, Cameron Tankersley, and Jake Peacock among others.

With this level of talent on display, is it too much to ask for some actual TV coverage next year? Golf Channel, we’re looking at you.

Ludvig Aberg was one of the PGA stars to tee it up during the inaugural week of the TGL

(via Golf.com)

Speaking of TV coverage, innovation was front and center last week as the TGL finally teed off, and reactions were… mixed, but intriguing.

Here’s what we loved:

  • The shot clock kept things moving at an electric pace.

  • The mics gave fans a glimpse into some of the banter and trash talk we all love.

  • And the team element added layers of strategy and decision making.

It’s refreshing to see a fresh take on the game, especially when the PGA Tour broadcast hasn’t evolved much at all since 2024.

Did you tune in on Tuesday? What did you think? Let us know!

Tom McKibbin looks like he is poised to join Jon Rahm’s team on LIV

(via The Mirror US)

Rumors are swirling that Irish phenom Tom McKibbin will join Jon Rahm’s team on LIV Golf next season, following in the footsteps of other young standouts like Caleb Surratt and Luis Masaveu.

While McKibbin hasn’t confirmed the move yet, all signs point to this being a done deal. It’s hard to blame these young stars for making business decisions, but the fractured state of pro golf makes it tougher to follow top talent.

Here’s hoping we find a middle ground soon – and that we still see these players in the Majors before long.

Player Spotlight

Jackson Suber finished T6 at The Sony Open last week in his first official PGA start

Jackson Suber Shows Out for First Start of PGA Career

Ole Miss alum Jackson Suber wasted no time making an impression in his full-time PGA debut. On Sunday at Waialae, Suber bounced back from an early bogey on the 3rd hole with a Birdie/Eagle on 7 and 9, followed by Birdies on 3 of his final 5. His 65 earned him a T6 finish in his first PGA start – an incredible performance for his first ever full time start.

Suber, one of our Korn Ferry Tour grads to watch, looks primed for a stellar season. Keep an eye out for him at The Amex this week and beyond.

Follower Swing of the Week

Big shoutout to Carter Tipton for winning Follower Swing of the Week – and in a landslide, no less!

Carter, a 2026 from Midland, TX, is gearing up for what looks to be a massive spring season. Keep an eye out for him and go show him some love!

That’s it for this week!
