The Nukes Only News Report: Issue #12

February 19, 2025

Welcome back to the Nukes Only News Report - where each week, the best young players keep showing out at every level, from the PGA Tour to college and junior golf.

And this week? We’ve got big-time wins, rising stars, and a stacked junior field.

Let’s dive in:

The Rundown

Ludvig Aberg wins his first PGA Signature Event at The Genesis Invitational

(via The Athletic)

In case you were in a coma last week—Ludvig Åberg came storming back last Sunday, birdieing three of his last six holes to steal the win at The Genesis Invitational—his first PGA Tour signature event victory.

At this point, the rest kind of feels inevitable.

Ludvig has already proven he can contend on golf’s biggest stages—now, all that’s left is winning a major (or more).

Think he gets it done this season? Let us know!

Rasmus Hojgaard could be joining his brother Nicolai on Tour next year

Ian Gilligan just cannot. Stop. Winning.

The World No. 6 Amateur claimed his sixth collegiate title, forcing (and winning) a playoff at 8-under over Justin Matthews (Charlotte).

His Florida Gators also grabbed the team title by one shot over Oklahoma State—and with Luke Poulter back and healthy, Florida is looking like a serious threat the rest of the season.

Sage Valley will play host to 60 of the top Juniors in the world next month

(via Golfweek)

One of the most prestigious events in junior golf is right around the corner—the 2025 Junior Invitational at Sage Valley tees off March 19th at Sage Valley Golf Club in Graniteville, SC.

And this year’s field is absolutely loaded:

  • Tyler Mawhinney

  • Ronin Banerjee

  • Will Hartman

  • Tyler Watts

  • Henry Guan

  • Luke Colton

  • Lev Grinberg

  • Trevor Gutschewski

  • Jackson Byrd

  • Logan Reilly

  • Pennson Badgett

Just a few of the many names to keep an eye on. Who do you think takes the title?

Player Spotlight

A PGA Debut and brand new apparel deal is all in a week’s work for Karl Vilips

Karl Vilips is Having Himself a Week

Most PGA rookies ease their way in—maybe make a cut or two in the West Coast swing.

Karl Vilips is not most PGA rookies.

The former Pac-12 champ & KFT Rookie of the Year makes his PGA Tour debut this week at the Mexico Open AND was just named the first-ever brand ambassador for Tiger Woods’ Sun Day Red brand.

If we know Karl, he’s not going to be done making headlines any time soon.

Quote of the Week

“It’s almost addicting to walk down those last couple holes, and I just want to do it again.”

Ludvig Aberg

That’s it for this week!

We’ll be back Friday posting follower swings, so if you want to be featured, reach out!

Until then—keep grinding, enjoy the weekend, and we’ll see you next week! đźš€
