The Nukes Only News Report: Issue #19
April 24, 2025
Hello and welcome back to the Nukes Only News Report!
This week we’re highlighting a few dynamic duos - from pros to phenoms - who are absolutely tearing it up at every level of the game.
Let’s dive right in:
The Rundown

Maxwell Moldovan captured his first pro title at the ECP Brazil Open
Buckeye Boys Break Through
Two former Ohio State teammates, two career-defining wins, just days apart.
Neal Shipley continues his rise with a dramatic playoff victory at the KFT Lecom Suncoast Classic, sinking an absolute bomb for the clincher to lock up his first pro win.
Not to be outdone, Maxwell Moldovan captured the PGA Tour Americas’ ECP Brazil Open a few days prior - draining a long-range putt of his own to seal the deal.
It’s been a rockier road for Moldovan, who’s struggled out of the gates as a pro. But the tide may be turning - he Monday Q’d into the KFT event last week and made the cut, joining Shipley for a weekend showing.
The Buckeye boys are officially on a heater.

Blades Brown and Miles Russell both teed it up on the KFT this past week
Teen Talents Shine at Suncoast
Also making noise at the Lecom Suncoast Classic: two of the most promising teens in the game - Blades Brown and Miles Russell.
Russell returned to the event after making the cut last year, this time with a Junior Invitational win under his belt.
Brown, meanwhile, already has a made cut on the PGA Tour (Mexico Open) and continues to turn heads every time he tees it up.
Both are firmly on the radar. And with Blades already pro, the question is… will Miles follow soon? 👀

Michael Thorbjornsen and Karl Vilips go way, way back to their Stanford days
Stanford Duo Teams Up for Zurich
Picture this: you go through college playing with your best friend… then both of you turn pro, find early success - and now you’re teeing it up together at a PGA team event.
That’s the vibe this week for Michael Thorbjornsen and Karl Vilips, repping Stanford once again at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans.
Thorbjornsen is fresh off his best finish as a pro in the DR, while Vilips enters with momentum from a signature event start and his first PGA win earlier this season.
Don’t be surprised if they go on a run and give Rory and Shane a scare. 🔥
Player Spotlight(s)

David Ford and Luke Clanton are the odds on favorites for the Haskins Award
Will David Ford take home the Haskins?
Florida State’s Luke Clanton just snagged his third win of the season at the Lewis Chitengwa Memorial - adding to an insane stretch of consistent top-tier finishes.
And yet… he’s still not the Haskins front-runner.
That title belongs (for now) to UNC senior David Ford, who just notched his fifth win of the year at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. He also tied the UNC all-time wins record, joining Dustin Bray with seven career titles.
Ford has been a force: five wins, three other top-10s, and a worst finish of T-19 in 10 starts. With the ACC Championship up next this week, this race is far from over.
Quote of the Week
“When that last one went in, I kind of went berserk. You practice for moments like that.”
That’s it for this week!
All eyes are on the conference tournaments—and we’ll be back to break down Regionals and beyond. Best of luck to everyone teeing it up this weekend.
See you next week! 🚀
